New VFP8.0 User...HELP!
I have just received my retail copy of VFP8.0 Professional, which cost my
company over $1,000.00 (Cnd), including taxes. Boy was I surprised when
I opened the box to find a single 'CD', no manual, no tutorials, virtually
nothing...
I was hoping to get at least a manual to assist me in learning this version
of VFP. I was a FoxPro programmer about 8 years ago, when I used FoxPro
version 2.5, but it was all source code. This program resembles Microsoft
Access a great deal, but obviously has many more features...
OK, here's my problem, I need access to some tutorials on how to get VFP
up and running, from a programmers perspective..., also, any manuals that
I could download??
Any information would certainly help...
Thanks,

Frank,
Here's my "canned" response to these kind of requests:
The best VFP books are available at http://www.hentzenwerke.com/ -
"Fundamentals: Building Visual Studio Applications on a VFP Foundation" =
is a
good one to start with.
There are a number of resources at the VFP home page =
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/.
You may also want to check out some free training at
http://www.free-ed.net/fr03/lfc/030101/129/.
If you have a training budget, consider MicroEndeavors
(http://www.microendeavors.com/) - they have both classes and self-study
courses. There are others offering training, it's just I know these are
good, having used them.
Some other training options are:
TakeNote - http://www.takenote.com
KeyStone Learning - http://www.keystonelearning.com (VFP - =
http://www.keystonelearning.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/Category/key=
stonecat.d2w/report?cgmenbr=3D7020&cgrfnbr=3D1117 )
AppDev - http://www.appdev.com/ (VFP =
-http://www.appdev.com/topics/product.asp?ID=3D7 )
There is also the UT (http://www.universalthread.com/), Tek-Tips
(http://www.tek-tips.com/), FoxForum (http://www.foxforum.com/), Virtual =
FoxPro User Group
(http://vfug.org:8080/) and the Wiki (http://fox.wikis.com/) - all good =
resources for peer "group" based help.
Also, all the "manuals" are in the installed help file, which is also =
available on-line at =
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=3D/library/en-us/dv_fox=
help/html/vfp7startpage.asp.

# 2 Re: New VFP8.0 User...HELP!
Hi Frank,
MS doesn't provide much in the way of hardcopy manuals these days. The VFP
Help is a good place to start and as Rick suggested, the books at
www.hentzenwerke.com.
Also, all of the MSDN (Help) Library is online at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library .
