Searching for untivirus

Hi, I was wondering what is the best free antivirut and firewall programmes. I got Norton for the moment but I don't really like it. I always get popup messages and it usually can't remove viruses. Hope somebody can advise me what antivirus and firewall i should choose.

If you're using Windows XP, it has a free firewall built in. ZoneAlarm also offers a good free firewall for personal (non-business) use: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp . like yourself i also found norton antivirus to lack upon removing virus's and found the pop up's and 'background' prog's Useless.. but not sure what you meant by free (nortons antivirus is Definitely not!) but i am now running NOD32 which i find to be a good solid antivirus that do not run several background applications (unless i ask it to!)
and that detects AND removes viruses ect.. (BUT NOT FREE ;)) as for a firewall that is free then i agree that zonelabs is the more reliable. (Note the OS i refer to is xp) ie not fat 32 ect.

I just installedAVG free antivirus and it detected and removed some Troyan downloaders from my PC. Strange because I scand for viruses with Norton and adAware and both did not detect it :).

Although anti-software can help detect and remove viruses, it will be better if you try to prevent it in the first place. To avoid viruses by not accepting any download from unknown site, do not use pirated software or CD-ROM from unknown...
