Appreciation

The other day, I went to a forum on another website looking for the solution to my reference problem. On THAT forum, you get an email every time someone posts to the forum, whether you have subscribed to that thread or not!

Not only do those people give BAD and INCORRECT advice, but they do it in a MEAN way! Like this:

In response to:
"I have the date field with the following input mask, 00/00/0000;0;_

It works fine when I have a full date, but I also want to be able to enter just the year sometimes, or just month and year. Is there a solution."

The reply:
"There is no solution b/c a date includes a day, month and year. Have you ever heard of a date without all three? Neither has Access. As I have often said here, a database date is a count of how many days since a benchmark date, such as 1/1/1900. Think of what you are asking in that context! What you could do is arbitrarily use June or July when no month is known, or 15
when no date is known. Would this satisfy your statistical purpose?"

This is just one of MANY replies from idiots! (My solution was to change the field to a text field and evaluate the string)

This experience has made me TRULY appreciate the people in this forum. There's never a time that Paul, Phil, marco <wink>, Rich, Andrew and MANY others don't answer my questions both correctly and respectfully. You have NEVER made me feel stupid, ridiculous, or unintelligent in any way, no matter HOW much I whine! For that, I want to say THANK YOU!

I hope you all know how VERY much I appreciate your help!

L&K,
Laurel

P.S. Visiting that other forum has made me realize just how MUCH I've learned over the past few years!

Thanks, Laurel! That's what you get for seeing other forums behind our backs. ;-)

OH PHIL, I'M SORRY!! I've been a forum slut!

In my defense, I tried to get my needs met from Paul but, in the end, I had to look elsewhere, and they were WRONG! (Isn't that always the case when you're unfaithful?)

Mea Culpa,
Laurel

P.S. Here's the response to my trying to help that guy:

A person is chaacterized by many things, onlky one of which is his or her face.
So one could display a face picture of, say, Presidernt Bush. That would be the
President himself or in full, but one 'property,' his face. The same is true for
format(date,).

By construction, format() provides a string, not a date. Certainly there are many
"formats" in which one can display a date. Many indeed have only portiosn of the date dispalyed, frequently, for example, no time. Still, a stored datetime has all its parts, with the time being stored as a decimal fraction after midnight. You just may not see them all.

In fact I myself (no mea culpa here, sorry) have visited forums from other web sites, and so far I remain a contribuitor to only three of them (dev-archive included), leaving out many of them where people were either rude or did not know what they were talking about.
We are talking about natural selection here...

Thanks for your post Laurel.

I must admit i've visited other forums before, but i've repented.

I used to go on xtrebevbtalk.com, but a lot of people on there are very unhelpful!

The important thing is that you repented, Rich. All is forgiven on this end. I hope that I can be forgiven as well. :o

Well I failed to satisfy your needs and so you go cheat on me.

All you had to do was post a follow-up message and I would have been more than happy to help. Now...I'm not so sure anymore. :(

OH PAUL! I'm SO SORRY! It was a result of deep-seated emotional problems and only a "one-day stand". I take full responsibility for my actions and will seek help.....and I hope that you will help me and someday learn to trust me again! Maybe we could get counseling TOGETHER?..from, say...Dr. PHIL (Weber)?

With deepest regrets,
Laurel
