Job description:
Full-time permanent position. The DC office is within walking distance to Farragut North and McPherson Square Metro Stations.

Work with one of the nation's premier interactive communications firms providing effective online strategies and solutions for public affairs campaigns. Its clients include many of the nation's leading associations, coalitions, non-profit organizations, corporations, and foundations working on a broad range of issues. Their award-winning efforts have set the standard for innovation, creativity, and results.

Members of the Technical Services staff are responsible for executing all aspects of a project or campaign. On larger projects, staff members work as part of a team and are supervised by the Technical Project Manager. On smaller projects and tasks, staff members are expected to work independently, seeking support from others when needed. Staff members are expected to perform tasks using a wide range of technologies, such as PHP, ColdFusion, or Perl, with the expectation that he or she will learn more advanced capabilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following specific activities:
* Consistently delivering timely and high-quality services
* Entering time worked accurately
* Performing quality assurance on all project tasks completed
* Supporting fellow technical staff in the implementation of project work
* Responding to technical problems identified by the Client Services team
* Communicating task and project status to Client Services with regard to deliverables and timelines
* Maintaining an understanding of company process (e.g. when to involve pertinent staff members, establishing best practices, code reuse etc.) and suggesting process improvements
* Being "fluent" in current technology
* Suggesting new technology approaches on an ongoing basis

To advance within the ranks of the Technical Services department, the staff person must be proficient in all duties listed above, excel within the Core Capabilities as outlined below and demonstrate an enthusiasm and capacity to advance.

Core Capabilities:
* Helping Client Services staff during discovery to determine the technical direction of a project
* Converting project/client requirements into technical tasks and providing estimates for these tasks
* Drafting of Technical Architecture and Test Plans
* Generating the technical schedule and coordinating delivery of work with Client Services and Design teams
* Providing technical status updates to Client Services
* Monitoring the progress of technical work completed
* Monitoring the number of hours estimated vs. actual
* Notifying the Vice President of Technical Services of issues affecting the direction and progress of the project
* Promoting new technologies and innovations to clients
* Communicating project and infrastructure status to clients
* Facilitating client problem resolution by presenting explanation, analysis and recommendations
* Taking an active role in the development of technical proposals for prospective clients
* Reviewing the quality of services and support provided by vendors with close supervision of follow-up action items
* Monitoring new product introduction and innovation by vendors
* Researching and recommending new products to the Vice President and Chief Technical Officer

Technical Expertise:
The ability of the Technical Staff to excel within the capabilities listed above is vital to the success of the company. However, the skill with which Technical Services staff is able to execute effectively relies heavily upon a strong familiarity and comfort level with our core technologies.

The following technologies have been identified as critical to the success of their business: PHP, ColdFusion, Perl, .NET, Flash, Apache, IIS, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, CMS, CRM

Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
* 4+ years of experience developing Unix, database driven applications;
* Experience estimating level of effort for technical work;
* Ability to write technical specifications for projects, and know how to scale up or down the time spent on this, while trading off risk;
* Candidate must be familiar with all phases of the software development lifecycle;
* Manage requirements, design, schedule, and project documentation;
* Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical individuals and to facilitate client meetings.
