Disadvantages of using DB2 BLOBs to store Word documents and Scanned images?

Current environment:
DB2 Ver 5.1.2 OS390, VB6 Clients,
NT Server 4.0 sp3 with Vinca 1.x redundancy used as a document storage
server.

We are upgrading to DB2 Ver. 6.1 in the spring and I would like to migrate
the stored documents and images on the NT servers into DB2 tables. Has
anyone had any experience with this, and are there any major disadvantages
(besides DASD space) to working with BLOBs in DB2. Our MS SQL server DBA's
don't like to store BLOBs because of logging issues, and our DB2 DBA doesn't
have an opinion on the subject yet.

Currently we index the documents (over 50,000) in a table in DB2, and then
retrieve the document from the server when needed. So far the performance
has not been a problem, but we are beginning to run out of space on the NT
servers, and the service packs and Vinca are not fun to maintain.

Any insights would be appreciated
