Pricing a VB application
Is there a website or publication or reference where I can get an idea
of how to price a VB app? I write mostly simple front ends to Access databases,
but am now getting more complex requests.

A web search might turn up some suggestions, but your education will most
likely come from the School of Bad Guesses.
As the requests get more complex, the opportunity for the customer to change
direction mid-project increases. If at all possible, quote an hourly rate
only.
If they want to pin you down with a firm package price, remember two things...
you are writing a custom package where off-the-shelf prices do not apply,
and do not write the first line of code until you have signed DETAILED specifications.
The specifications include software versions, including operating system
and release number, input fields and parameters, output results, customer
supplied sketches of screens, hardware requirements, network resoruces required,
number of concurrent users, security control, and so on.
I think you get the picture. Exact price means exact requirements. Per hour
means they are entitled to change their mind, which WILL happen in either
case.
Good luck, and remember this if nothing else...
If you grossly underestimate the job on a fixed bid, that is not the customer's
fault. You still give them every bit the same service you would if you had
made a perfect bid. Would give them a refund if you got the job done sooner
than estimated?
