cannot decide and dont know where to start

Can someone give me an insight on what course I should take? MCSE, MCSD,
SQL, Oracle all of which
I am very interested in. Which will be more lucritive? Which will be the
best course of action for
someone with little programming experience?

I am a database Administrator for a large company right now, but don't let
that fool you, I do not write
or design databases. I maintain information going into the SAP database.
Kinda like monitoring an
excel spreadsheet.

I do build PC's and networks and do web design as well, but it is just not
good enough anymore and
everyone is doing it.

I would very much appreciate some help in my situation.

Thanks in advance,
Bgnr

Which will be more lucrative?!?!?!?! I don't believe that is the proper
motivation. Correct me if I am wrong, but most of the people in the
computer field are in it because of our passion in computer, not because of
money. Of course I like money too... who doesn't? But it is not my first
priority.

To decide which field to get in, you have to do some "soul-searching" and
find out what do you like, and what fits your personality the most. Try not
to be a "Jack Of All Trades". You have to specialize in something. Yes, I
am interested in everything too, but there is no way for any single person
to master all these fields.

Having said that, there are a lot of cross-over in the computer profession.
For example, if you are a software developer, you have to know databases,
i.e. SQL Server and Oracle. But your knowledge will not be in the DBA
capacity. My point is that you have to specialize in one skill (e.g.
programming) that is going to be your "bread-and-butter", and know the other
fields in order to compliment your job.

Just my 2 cents.

As a generalization:

Oracle DBAs make very good money. $150,000 per year and more is common in
most major markets, as a contractor.

Programmers using Java make less. $125K per year or less is typical as a
contractor

Programmers using MS tech make less than Java programmers. $100K or less
as a contractor is the usual

MCSD types can usually pull in $65K per year as a contractor.

This is just my subjective "feel" based on what I see in my market. If you
are interested in Full-time, the rates are probably about 65% of the above.
