Office 2000 trouble...

Hi there,
I've just installed the SDK and I've come to face an unexpected effect.
My MS-Office applications (Word-Excel...) do not work properly. They start
and then suddenly they exit a second or so later... I've tried all sorts
(re-install MS-Office IE5.5 etc) but I can't get it to work. Unfortunately
I had to set-up the machine from scratch to recover.

I'm running on Windows 2000 + IIS5 + IE5.5 + Win2k SP1

All ideas welcome...

Thanks in advance!

This is known behavior.

This is pre-beta software.

Microsoft advises people to load this on a cleanly-installed machine with no
other software loaded. You should never load beta software on a production
operating system that you'll need to do other work on.

Bugs like this will be fixed between now and release.

I highly recommend using VMWare. That'll let you load a version of Windows
2000 inside your main version. It's really cool and lets you alpha and beta
test stuff without messing with your main system.

Hi, I used to deal with the same problem.

So, no way, if you have Office CD-key starting with GC6J3. Just reinstall
new office from CD, which CD-key starts with something else...

If your Office doesn't start with GC6J3 then try to install Office 2000
SR-1a (Service Pack). If after that you will have any problems, refer to MS
Office FAQ. They will offer you to do some dirty work inside your registry.

If you tired of many "if" in may response, just remember that you are
dealing with Microsoft product... :-)

Best regards,
