Wireless WAN
Hello, a friend of mine owns a business which has a simple LAN. He now wants
to connect some computers to this LAN hopefully wirelessly. These laptops
would be at remote locations within the same city (but will change locations
day to day). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what technology to use?
Thanks,
Jeff

# 1 Re: Wireless WAN
The most simply way to make an wireless lan (up to 11 mbps), is to add an
Access point to the netwerk. In most cases you can connect up to 64 "clients"
to the access point.
you can go up to a 100m from the access point.
Covering a hole city area is not possible at the moment.
You can "bridge" to buildings up to 4 km on a wireless base. But the transmitting
is in 1 direction (using special antennes) and that solution is not portable.
You must also have a good security systems if you go wireless.
You kan also you a GPRS system (advanced GSM), but your mobile provider must
deliver the service. (connect your laptop with your gprs phone and connect
via a modem in the office to the LAN.
You can also connect to your office with a simply modem connection or using
the internet. (There are several programs to do that, ex. Norton PC Anywhere)
