All this new stuff...

Hi!

I'm having some problems cathing up with all this new stuff...

Has anyone tried the C# language?
Is the similar to VB?
Would it be hard to learn for a VB programmer?

Has anyone tried ASP+ ?
What new features in it compared to ASP?
Does it support more languages then just the script languages?
Is there any new objects?

What is VB.NET ?

Thanks!

Yes, but not me. You can download the beta from MS or you'll get it
with MSDN. If you don't already have it, you might want to wait for
the next release.

VB is not even similar to VB.

>Would it be hard to learn for a VB programmer?

Dunno. I don't plan to try learning C# and I haven't decided whether
VB is worth staying with through this change.

Nobody is really sure yet. It is not VB, but other than that the
definition seems a bit fuzzy.

John: You really need to do some reading on your own; it's not reasonable to
expect the people in these newsgroups to educate you. A good place to start
is dev-archive' .NET resources page ( http://www.dev-archive.com/dotnet/ ).

After you've learned what ASP+, C# and VB.NET are, how they're similar and
different from ASP, Java and VB, and why Microsoft has created them, feel
free to come back and ask specific questions. Please post each question to
the single group devoted to the language you're asking about. Thanks!

Did I? Some of the keywords are the same, some of the functions work
the same. Yea, I suppose they're similar in some ways so "not even
similar" is a bit much I confess.

Guilty as charged: A rant borne of frustration, fueled by utter
amazement.

But, how much of an exaggeration is it? Really.

Dont get me wrong...
I DO read lots of stuff on the web.
However, my english isn't that good, so when I really want to learn
something I rather depend on people who might understand the articles better
than me.

Im standing at a crossroad, and I dont know what to do.
I've programmed in VB for years now.
I work with ASP at home, but with ColdFusion at work.
Suddenly a bounch of new stuff appears, so I dont know
what to learn, and what I will use in the future.

I was more looking for an advise, rather than an answer.
What road should I take?

Looking at your e-mail address, I'm guessing you're a Swede, right?

If language is the problem here, feel free to e-mail any specific
question you have to me, and I'll try to write something back in plain
swedish. Of course, I'm as new to all this as most other people, so
I'm not sure I have a good answer for you.

Please don't minimize, or act as an apologist.

John,

I started a tutorial on my web site on programming in C#. One of the things
I've tried to do is write with international considerations and at the
beginner level. Please feel free to check it out and contact me if anything
is unclear. You can use the URL in my signature.

I had trouble getting through last night also. However, it seems to be
working well today. Please try again.
